Peat does not always develop over impermeable subsoils, though this is the norm. In some caes a bog can develop where there is a freshwater source saturating an area. Under these conditions, anaerobic degradation of matter occurs, leading to the formation of peat. Where thisi sthe situation, a wastewater treatment unit MAY be considered where it can be shown that treated water can migrate off-site. There are, as always, other considerations to take into account.
